Fashion, Textiles, and Social History

What you wear is who you are - or aspire to be. The fashion and textile collection is an intimate record – think girdles and undergarments – of our daily life from the city’s earliest days as the rough-and-tumble frontier Terminus to the transformers of today’s GenAlpha. Everyday garments for men, women, and children range from home-sewn clothes and military uniforms to flashy designer fashions, Go-Go boots, and Space Age couture. Everyone needs accessories, so we have shoes, hats, handbags, jewelry, spectacles, and plenty of swag. Textiles means quilts, coverlets, samplers, bedspreads, rugs and table linens – and baby’s worn-out blankie. There are over 10,000 pieces in this collection … surely you can find something to wear!
